How do I back-up data to a remote off-site computer?

I have been working on a voluntary project for 6 years and I have 10.4 GB of data. I have backed-up regularly onto External Hard Drive, DVDs and 12 Gb Flash Drives. BUT I have to remember to take one of them with me each I leave the house -- something I regularly forget to do. Is there any FREE software that will allow me to back-up to a friend's computer automatically? Would these back-ups be counted in my friend's allowable download by his ISP? Your assistance will be welcomed.
